One of the most common questions we receive from collectors and interior designers is: "What size canvas print should I choose?" The answer depends on several factors that go beyond personal preference.
Wall Proportion Matters
A general rule is that your artwork should fill 60-75% of the available wall space but not exceed it. For a standard 8-foot wall, a 24x36 inch print works well as a centerpiece. For larger walls, consider grouping multiple pieces or opting for a 36x48 inch statement print.
Viewing Distance
The distance from which the print will typically be viewed affects the ideal size. In a hallway where viewers pass close, smaller prints (11x14 or 16x20) work well. In a living room where the sofa is 8-10 feet from the wall, a 24x36 or larger print maintains visual impact.
Gallery Walls
When creating a gallery wall, mix sizes strategically. Start with a larger anchor piece (24x36) and surround it with smaller complementary prints (11x14, 8x10). Maintain consistent spacing of 2-3 inches between frames for a cohesive look.
Color and Tone Considerations
Neutral-toned prints in earth colors or soft blues tend to recede visually, making them suitable for smaller spaces. Bold, high-contrast prints draw the eye and can make a smaller size feel more impactful in a larger room.
